FINISHED TRIANGLE!

Final product!

SO STRONG!!!

In the process of bending the rebar!

STARTING PIECE OF REBAR

REBAR TRIANGLE!!!!

I played my home made rebar triangle at the pep rally for state today and it rocked! The triangle is huge and the sound is extremely similar to a normal triangle. I started with a straight piece of metal rebar and bent in into the general triangle shape while at school, and then I was able to clamp the metal at home and hammer the metal to get sharper corners.

MY XYLOPHONE!

YAY XYLOPHONE!

Today was absolutely wonderful I re-supported the base of my xylophone with a wooden beam nailed diagonally across the bottom. Then I was able to nail down each piece of sheet metal.

SHEET METAL!

I found some sheet metal in my garage and decided that it would be the perfect material for next instrument project! I ended up manipulating the excellent sheets of metal into a rectangular drum-like instrument, a curved cone shaped horn instrument, and last but not least I kept one sheet completely flat and simply waved it around in the air because I just loved the noise that was a result of it. I had a wonderful day making instruments.

IRENE PLAYING THE BASS CLARROTNET

BASS CLARROTNET

FRUITS AND VEGETABLES!

In class I was able to carve out the center of both an apple and a carrot, after each had a cylindrical hollow center I carved small circular holes that would serve as keys to alter the pitch of each note that my fruit and vegetable instruments would make.  Each of these instruments can accommodate both brass and woodwind mouthpieces.  In my testing of the instruments i used a bass clarinet mouthpiece and also a french horn mouthpiece (the french horn being my main instrument). My favorite combination is going to have to be the bass clarrotnet. I had an excellent time making these delicious instruments.

FIRST POST!

Well for my 20% project (20% of the time that i spend in band will be dedicated to this project similar to the way google allows their employees to spend 20% of their time on a project of their choosing) I will be making instruments.  Although there are some people that believe i am not capable of making functioning instruments i have complete confidence in myself and know that i will succeed. Im extremely excited, and READY TO MAKE SOME INSTRUMENTS!
